YVTV was formed in the summer of 2000 as Machine Becomes God. Lifelong friends Aeryn Musick and Josh Money (guitar, vocals) had played together in Intake Factor, whose demise hastened their trek into the murky waters of industrial metal. The first song they recorded together was Believe, a slow, pounding little ditty currently played by Eyes Stained Black.
Shortly thereafter, they met up with Adam Story, a very accomplished bassist who was into a wide range of music. Adam's sound gave YVTV a unique edge, as his first bass hero was Chris Squire of Yes fame. With Aeryn providing the beats, the sound went a more experimental direction that Josh did not feel so strongly about. Aeryn and Adam continued to work together after Josh left (on good terms) to pursue more metal interests. Demos were recorded, and some small shows were played, but things seemed stuck... Something needed to happen to get things moving again. Adam departed amicably to work on other projects, and Aeryn went back to writing by himself, pushing the limits of what he could do with the technology at his disposal.
In January of 2007, YVTV played their first show in over 2 years. As it was just Aeryn at this time, Josh generously came back for one show and played bass. The set was very well received. Aeryn was revitalized. Something needed to happen.
After months of looking for partners in crime, Aeryn put YVTV into semi-retirement and joined Eyes Stained Black as a guitarist. It was strangely liberating to only have to do one job for ESB, and thusly, after a few months, he began to work on YVTV material again.
About this time, Ian mentioned he had been thinking of picking up bass. As the band wasn't functioning at this time, it seemed the perfect solution. Aeryn and Ian had been friends since high school, and even jammed together on occasion, playing mostly Cure covers. After a few months of lessons and practice, they started going over YVTV's existing material. Things were moving along, they just needed a final piece of the puzzle: a dedicated guitarist.
In the fall of 2007, they posted a classified ad for a heavy guitarist with a weird enough sensibility to fit into this mish-mash. Only one response was received, from a guy named Mataan. He was into jam bands and Cradle of Filth. It seemed too good to be true.
